Fluid flushes are important to maintain health and longevity of your vehicle. More often than not many vehicle owners do not realize just how many fluids and fluid services are needed (besides just oil). There are over a handful of fluid services that all vehicles need at some point in its life and they should be completed at proper intervals (which our Service Advisors will communicate to you), or when you purchase a preowned vehicle and you are not sure how well the previous owner kept up on the routine maintenance of the care or truck.
The process of a fluid flush is exactly as it sounds. A technician will “flush out” all the bad fluid that is overdue, bad, contaminated, and hindering any systems operations within your vehicle. Recommendations on fluid flush frequencies really depends on how often the vehicle is driven, if it is new or pre owned, and whether or not the vehicle is driving and operating within normal capacity. If you take pride and value in the longevity of your car, then scheduling your routine fluid inspections is imperative. Call Harmony Automotive today to schedule your appointment today so we can determine the health of your vehicle fluids.
Types of Vehicle Flushes
Please keep in mind that pricing of any fluid flush is dependent on the make and model of said vehicle.
Transmission Flush
We highly recommend having your transmission fluid flushed every 30,000-35,000 miles and changing out the filter as well. Some might say that is too frequent, however the transmission fluid is very similar to an oil which can and will break down with time. Staying on top of this maintenance more often can prevent extremely costly transmission repair due to irreversible damage.
Engine Cooling (Coolant/Anti-Freeze) Flush
There are many different approaches to this recommendation. Many auto shops say that you can go years without this fluid being flush (unless you notice a drivability problem). However as we continuously mention, we like to be more proactive and cautious so we can avoid a more costly repair down the road. Depending on the age of the vehicle we personally believe this service should be completed every 35,000-75,000 miles.
Power Steering Flush
Rumor has it that this fluid can last “for the life of the vehicle” but lets be real. The power steering system is exposed to outside & seasonal elements that can severely damage or wear down the consistency and efficiency of your car. Staying on top of this maintenance item will prevent eroding the steering gears, pump or hoses. The recommendation we like to use is checking this fluid at any oil change or inspection and replacing every 50,000-75,000 miles.
Brake Fluid Flush
This fluid is hugely important because it directly reflects your ability to stop your vehicle. This is an important fluid for your vehicle as it’s the reason you can stop your vehicle. Brake fluid should be a clear color; i.e., translucent, if the fluid is rust-colored it means that moisture has or is getting into the system and a flush is needed, if the brake fluid is black or burnt smelling, contact a mechanic immediately as your brake system is failing!
Fuel-Injection Flush
This flush is important because it correlates to your vehicles gas mileage. Your vehicle will not operate properly or at optimal performance if you have unhealthy/clogged fuel systems. Staying on top of this repair will help you spend less on gas overall. Our ASE certified technicians suggest this fluid be We all know the importance of gas mileage, and having clogged fuel system cleanings can prevent reaching your vehicles optimal gas mileage performance. That’s why you should get a fuel system cleaning every 30,000-35,000 miles
Rear-Differential Flush
This is the most forgotten maintenance flushes for all rear-wheel drive vehicles. In a rear-wheel-drive vehicle the rear-differential has its own lubrication and keeping all the moving parts in the rear-differential healthy prevents ‘slipping’ or complete wear & tear that would eventually require a full system replacement of the rear-differential; and let me tell you. It is not cheap. Here at Harmony Automotive we recommend changing this oil at minimum every 30,000-35,000 miles and should definitely not exceed 50,000 mile intervals.
